Cassie Cawthorn

Assistant Program Director and Program Counselor

I am Cassie Cawthorn, Assistant Program Director and Program Counselor at Into Action Recovery Centers. I bring compassion, direct communication, and lived experience to my work, supported by tenacity and resilience. After struggling with addiction for 20 years, I became willing to accept help, with my recovery date being September 16, 2018. Through faith, God presented me with a new life, and I chose not to waste it on broken dreams. One of those dreams was becoming a counselor to help others rediscover themselves so they are no longer defined or chained to their past. My journey with Into Action began in January 2022 as a practicum student, which led to roles as a Recovery Advocate and advancement into clinical and leadership positions. I hold an Associate of Applied Science in Mental Health Substance Abuse Counseling from Lee Community College in Baytown, Texas. I am deeply blessed to be part of this community—it is more than a job; it is my family away from home—and I find purpose in witnessing clients transform brokenness into hope.

In my work with clients, I utilize several therapeutic approaches, primarily motivational interviewing, a client-centered, evidence-based counseling method that helps individuals explore ambivalence, increase insight, and develop actionable plans for long-term recovery in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. I believe the most meaningful change occurs when clients are met with empathy, accountability, and example rather than judgment. Outside of work, I remain actively engaged in a rigorous recovery program that includes attending meetings and working with others, which has allowed me to become the woman I strive to be for my family, especially my son. I have built a home rooted in love and acceptance, often filled with teenage boys, and when we are not at home, you can find them on the field and me in the stands as their biggest cheerleader. I am profoundly grateful for a life grounded in faith, service, and purpose.
