Alcohol addiction, or dependency, is a common illness that is manifested in many forms. Some alcoholics are binge drinkers, who can go many days or weeks without drinking, but once they start drinking, go on “benders” where they drink uncontrollably. Some drink after work or socially, but find themselves consuming more and more alcohol over time. Others drink steadily throughout the day, even waking up during the night for a drink.
Most alcoholics develop the illness over years of drinking. Their need for alcohol increases as their tolerance to the drug rises. Many can “maintain” for years – keeping their family lives intact, keeping their jobs – but eventually the need for alcohol controls their lives and their can no longer function.
The negative effects of alcoholism are physical, emotional and social. As the disease takes over the addict’s life, he or she can lose his or her family, home and job while suffering blackouts, cognitive impairment and liver disease.
At Into Action, we work with each patient to develop an individual alcohol rehabilitation program designed to address the specific causes of the addiction as well as treating the underlying alcohol dependency. Our staff is available 24/7 to answer your questions and to begin the admissions process to start you on your recovery.
